Be the business they find first.

Most of your next customers will start with a search: on Google, on the map, or in an AI answer. The consultation looks at where your business shows up today for the searches that matter in your area, and lays out the steps that put you in front of the people who are already looking for what you do.

The map is the first thing they see

When someone nearby searches for a roofer, a plumber, or a dentist, Google shows three businesses on a map before it shows anything else. Those three get most of the calls. Which three appear is decided by the Google Business Profile behind each one, the reviews on it, and whether the rest of the web agrees with what the profile says. I start by checking whether your business is in that pack for the searches that bring customers, and who holds the slots instead.

Google results for plumbers near me on a phone in Portland: the map with Rose City, D&F, and Perfect Service pinned, a Have AI check prices button, then a sponsored listing for H2O Plumbing
"plumbers near me" on a phone in Portland, September 9, 2026. The map fills the first screen, then a button that has Google's AI call the plumbers, then a sponsored listing before the pack itself.

Google will call you before the customer does

The newest button under the map is Have AI check prices. The searcher picks the job, and Google's AI phones the plumbers nearby, asks what they charge and when they can come, and hands the answers back as a list. The businesses it calls are the ones in the pack with a phone number that gets answered, and the ones with a price on the page get quoted before they are called. It is one more reason the profile, the hours, and the service page have to be right before the season starts.

Google's Plumber Service Request form on a phone: AI calls, so you don't need to, then a choice between drain cleaning and plumbing service
What the button opens. Google asks what the job is, then its AI calls plumbers nearby to check prices and availability and sends the answers back. Your profile, your hours, and whether you answer the phone decide if you are one of them.

Your Google Business Profile does the heavy lifting

A complete profile is the cheapest ranking work there is, and most profiles I open are half filled in. The consultation reads yours the way Google does and lists what to fix.

The Google Business Profile category editor: a primary category, three additional categories, and Add another category
The category editor in a Google Business Profile. The primary category decides which searches the listing can appear for. The additional ones widen it. This is the first field I check.
  • The listing claimed and verified, and ownership recovered if it is stuck with a past employee or an old agency.
  • The primary category set for the search you most want, with secondary categories for the rest.
  • Every service listed, with hours, service area, and the attributes filled in completely.
  • Photos from real jobs added on a schedule, and the ones that hurt removed.
  • A review engine: a text after every completed job, with the link, at the hour people actually respond, and a reply to every review, good or bad.
  • The questions section filled in before a customer fills it in for you.

Listings that agree with each other

Google checks your name, address, and phone number against every directory it can find, and it trusts the profile more when they all match. So does the AI. A license record that is current, a BBB profile, Yelp, and the trade directories, all saying the same thing, are what make your business the one that can be verified. I list every place your business appears and every place they disagree.

06section.getting-found.05

One page per service, one per place

Google ranks pages, and the map pulls from the same pages. A site with one page that lists everything you do ranks for none of it. Repair, replacement, and install each get their own page. So does each city you serve. Seasonal pages go live before the season turns, so they are ranking when the searches arrive. The consultation lists the searches worth winning in your area, with real numbers, and the pages that win them.

The AI answer names the business it can check

More people ask ChatGPT and Gemini for a recommendation every month, and Google puts an AI Overview above its own results. ChatGPT does not read the map. It reads your license record, the directories, the review sources, and your own site before it names a business. That is GEO. AEO is the other half: the questions your customers ask, answered in one plain sentence on your page, so the featured snippet and the AI Overview quote you. SEO, GEO, and AEO read the same pages and the same records, so I do them together, and a fix for one moves the other two.

ChatGPT answering who the best plumber in Portland is, naming Service Plus Plumbing and citing Yahoo Local, BBB, and Angi
ChatGPT, asked for the best plumber in Portland. It named Service Plus Plumbing, which is not in the three-pack, and cited Yahoo Local, BBB, and Angi.

What moves first

The profile and citation work moves the map first, usually inside the first two months. AI answers update as the sources they read update, usually within a month or two. Rankings for the harder organic searches take three to six months to settle. The consultation gives you a timeline for each, and the pricing is published: three monthly plans, with the website included on Growth and Superior.

What the consultation gives you here

  • Where you rank today for the searches that bring customers in your area, with the search numbers.
  • What the map shows next to your competitors, and what their profiles have that yours does not.
  • What ChatGPT, Gemini, and the AI Overview say when someone asks for a recommendation in your trade.
  • Every listing that disagrees with your profile, and the order to fix them in.
  • The pages to build, in order, with the published price for the plan that fits.

A couple of sentences is plenty: the calls that don't come, the page that doesn't rank, the spreadsheet, the thing that eats a morning.

Only if you need a tool built. SEO plans and website builds are priced on the pricing page. A ballpark helps me scope the build.

Questions I get asked

Do I need to run ads to show up?

No. The consultation shows what each click costs you today, and I will tell you when ads make sense, but I do not run them. The point of this work is to stop needing them.

My listing is controlled by an old agency. Can that be fixed?

Yes. Recovering ownership of a Google Business Profile is part of the work, and it is usually the first thing I do.

Does this work outside Portland?

Local SEO, GEO, and AEO are for businesses in Oregon, because that is where I am and where I can check the work in person. The consultation is thirty minutes, at your shop, at the office on NW Irving St, or on a call.
